Edinburgh & Glasgow
Two Scottish cities
Edinburgh and Glasgow. The twin jewels in Scotland’s crown – and they couldn’t be more different. Almost all our Scottish tours stop in at one, or both.
Edinburgh is renowned for its cultural heritage, its stunning castle and world-famous Edinburgh Festival. But there is a seamier side to Scotland’s capital city, with its grave-robbing past, and the Edinburgh Vaults, a lawless subterranean world that existed underneath the cobbled streets.
Glasgow is a vibrant cosmopolitan party town, celebrating its working class roots in trade and commerce, shipbuilding, and its many, many inns and taverns.
Our Edinburgh & Glasgow Itineraries
Edinburgh is Scotland’s capital city, but it’s so small that you can explore its narrow streets and markets, classic Georgian squares and 900 year-old Edinburgh castle on foot. No Edinburgh visit is complete without a climb to the summit of Arthur’s Seat – one of the (many) places that lay claim to being the location of Camelot – for panoramic city views.
Glasgow, on the other hand is an experience, rather than a classic tourist destination. It’s got a big city buzz, best experienced in the many welcoming bars and restaurants (but maybe avoid the top deck of a Glaswegian night bus home – though that is where the world famous singer Sade was discovered).
No Glaswegian experience is complete without a visit to the 12th century cathedral –complete with necropolis – or the extraordinary Hunterian Museum and world-famous Kelvingrove art gallery and museum, a delightfully eclectic mix of stuffed elephants, Salvador Dalis, and Spitfire fighter planes all under one roof.

The Dear Green Place and "Auld Reekie"
These two cities are neighbours – and friendly rivals. We love them both.
