Itinerary
Day 1 – Introduction to Wales in Abergavenny
Make your way to London Paddington for the 09.32 direct train to Gloucester. On arrival, your guide meets you and transfers west to Abergavenny, the traditional gateway to Wales. Lunch is at Bread and Bean, a local favourite.
In the afternoon, we set out on a walk along the Skirrid trail. Known locally as the Sacred Hill or Holy Mountain, this striking outcrop carries centuries of myth, legend and spiritual significance. Your guide brings these stories to life as you walk its dramatic ridgeline.
A short transfer leads to The Bear for a welcome dinner before settling in at The Angel Hotel.
Day 2 – The Beacons. Three Peaks Day
After breakfast, we head deep into the Brecon Beacons National Park for a classic high level hike. Today’s route summits Corn Du, Pen y Fan and Cribyn, three peaks that define the park’s skyline.
The walking is rewarding rather than rushed, with expansive views across rolling mountains and hidden corners known only to those who guide here regularly. If conditions allow, there may be the opportunity for a discreet wild swim. A picnic lunch is prepared and served by your guides.
In the afternoon, we descend to the town of Brecon for independent exploration, perhaps visiting the cathedral, local museums or artisan shops, before returning to Abergavenny for dinner at the hotel.
Day 3 – Waterfalls and Whisky to St Davids
This morning’s walk follows a beautiful route to the working fishing village of Solva. The path undulates gently, revealing sea views and hidden coves along the way. Lunch is a packed hamper from MamGu Welshcakes, enjoyed wherever the views are best.
In the afternoon, we return to St Davids for a private guided visit of the cathedral and adjoining monastic ruins, exploring their significance as a place of pilgrimage for over 1,400 years. At 6pm, we attend choral evensong, a moving and atmospheric experience.
Dinner is enjoyed back at the hotel.
Day 4 – St Davids and Solva
This morning’s walk follows a beautiful route to the working fishing village of Solva. The path undulates gently, revealing sea views and hidden coves along the way. Lunch is a packed hamper from MamGu Welshcakes, enjoyed wherever the views are best.
In the afternoon, we return to St Davids for a private guided visit of the cathedral and adjoining monastic ruins, exploring their significance as a place of pilgrimage for over 1,400 years. At 6pm, we attend choral evensong, a moving and atmospheric experience.
Dinner is enjoyed back at the hotel.
Day 5 – Abereiddi and the Blue Lagoon
Today we explore one of Pembrokeshire’s wild western sections at Aber Pwll, where mudflats and salt marshes create a haven for birdlife. The walking is gentle but varied, crossing wildflower strewn terrain and open headland.
We continue to the Blue Lagoon at Abereiddi, a flooded slate quarry now transformed into an intense blue pool, echoing the area’s industrial past. Lunch is at the historic Sloop Inn in Porthgain before travelling north to Cardigan.
Day 6 – Mwnt and Farewell Evening
A relaxed morning in Cardigan allows time to explore the town or simply enjoy the river views. Later, we travel to Mwnt, a secluded cove backed by grassy slopes and a small white chapel. On sunny days, the sea turns an almost Mediterranean turquoise. There is time for walking the coast path and, conditions permitting, a refreshing sea swim.
We return to Cardigan for our final evening, sharing dinner accompanied by the stirring harmonies of a Welsh choir. A fitting farewell.
Day 7 – Departure
After breakfast, your guide transfers you to Carmarthen railway station for the direct train to London Paddington.
